DAY 1 ARRIVAL MUSCAT

Our driver will meet you at Muscat Airport and transfer you to the hotel. The rest of the day is free at your leisure.

DAY 2MUSCAT CITY TOUR

Start your day with a half day city tour of Muscat. We start with a visit to the Grand Mosque, which can accommodate up to 20,000 worshippers and consists of a main prayer hall, ladies prayer hall, covered passageways, a meeting hall, and a library (Note: Ladies visiting the mosque are required to cover their head with a scarf and be fully covered. Men have to wear long trousers). Continue to the old town of Muscat and visit Bait Al Zubair Museum. Al Alam Palace is the official residence of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said, the ruler of Oman. We then visit MuttrahSouq – one of the most popular souqs in the Middle East. Here, scents of exotic Arabian perfumes and spices float through the air. Other shops specialise in famous Omani khanjars (daggers), antiques, traditional silver jewellery, and handicrafts in copper, camel bone, wood, leather and hand-made Omani costumes. After shopping at the souq, return to the hotel.

DAY 3QURIYAT – WADI ARABAYEEN – RAS AL JINZ

Our first stop is Quriyat, where a large number of its inhabitants still earn their livelihood from fishing. Quriyat Fort was built around 200 years ago; Al Sahel fort on the coast; and Dagh Fort built during the Portuguese occupation. Stop at the Portuguese watchtower and fish market. Here you may get a chance to see some migratory birds.

We continue our drive along the coastal road and visit the picturesque Wadi Arabayeen, with its deep-waterpools among date palms. Our next stop is Bimmah Sinkhole, a huge limestone crater with azure water. Later, we stop at Fins beach for a short swim before proceeding to Qalhat, an ancient and abandoned port town. The mausoleum of Bibi Miriyam stands as a mute testimony of a bygone era (photostop only). At Ras Al Hadd, we check in at the hotel before a guided turtle watching tour in the evening (Note: the turtle watching starts at 21.00 pm).

DAY 4SUR – JALAN BANI BU ALI MOSQUE – WAHIBA SANDS

Today, our first stop is the dhow factory in Sur, where skilled craftsmen still build traditional dhows (fishing boats). In Jalan Bani Bu Ali we stop to photograph a 9th century mosque with 52 domes. A visit to a camel breeding farm and training centre is possible, subject to permission. Afterwards, we continue to Wadi Bani Khalid, considered one of the most beautiful in Oman. Enjoy a swim in the pools of the wadi before being served picnic lunch. On the way into the Wahiba Sands we will visit a Bedouin house, before arriving at a desert camp for the overnight stay.

DAY 5BIRKAT AL MAWZ – JEBEL AKHDAR – NIZWA

After check out we depart to Nizwa. Our first stop is Birkatal Mawz, where you can enjoy a walk through the lush green date plantations. We stop for a short coffee break with an Omani family before proceeding to Wadi Al Madeen and Jebel Akhdar (2000 m above sea level). Al Jebel Al Akhdar is famed for its fruit orchards laid out terrace style along the slopes of mountains, endowed with natural springs and aflaj. The roses of Jebel Al Akhdar fill the air with fragrance when in full bloom (March/April). In Nizwa, we check in at a hotel.

DAY 6NIZWA – JEBEL SHAMS – Al HAMRA

We leave for Jebel Shams, but not before visiting Nizwa Souq and Fort.
Our next stop, Jabrin Fort, enables visitors to recapture the atmosphere of medieval Oman. We continue from here, through Bahla where we stop for photo stop of Bahla Fort (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) from outside.

Continue to Jebel Shams, the highest peak in the Gulf region. Here you can enjoy breath-taking views of the deep canyon. We return to Nizwa, en route stopping at Wadi Ghul – the home of Oman’s traditional weavers; Wadi Nakhr, Oman’s deepest canyon and Al Hamra with its restored multi-level mud houses. Overnight at a Nizwa Hotel.

DAY 7 WADI BANI AWF – NAKHL – AL NAHDA RESORT

The route down Wadi Bani Awf is one of the Arabia’s greatest 4WD adventures and includes a visit to the village of Bilad Sait, a remote fortress village. Wadi Abhyad has large patches of white sedimentation, with small pools of water dotting the wadi bed. Later, we visit the beautiful Wakan village, famous for its fruit terrace farming. We continue from here to Nakhl and Nakhl Fort, which offers commanding views of the entire oasis. Before checking in at Al Nahda Resort we stop at Nakhl springs, a tranquil and picturesque spot.

DAY 8DEPARTURE

Enjoy your morning at leisure. After check out, you are transferred to Muscat International Airport for your flight home.
